How much it costs to rent a house in Bali in 2026, by the month and by the year

House rent in Bali from current listings: median price per month by bedrooms and by area, yearly prices, how a house differs from a villa, and where to find one.

Short answer: In October 2026, a house in Bali rents for a median Rp 19.5M a month, about $1,090, against Rp 33M for a villa. A 1-bedroom house is around Rp 11M and a 2-bedroom house Rp 25M. By the year, the median is Rp 130M. These are medians of 80 monthly and 56 yearly asking prices collected by All Bali Rentals.

This guide is about houses. For villas, see how much it costs to rent a villa in Bali, and for every type of home by area, the average rent in Bali.

House or villa

In Bali rental posts, a “villa” is a detached home built for foreigners, usually with a private pool. A “house” is closer to a local home: a building in a residential lane or a family compound, sometimes with a garden, more rarely with a pool. The line is blurry, and owners pick the word that rents best.

The listings show the difference. Of the 116 houses on this site, 34% mention a pool and 84% are furnished, and 59% are posted by the owner. With one or two bedrooms, a house is the cheaper way to have a whole place to yourself, and the usual choice for a long stay on a budget. Houses with three bedrooms or more are few, often large family homes on the west coast, and they cost about as much as a villa.

Fewer houses than villas are posted by the month, so these medians move more from one month to the next. A figure is shown only when at least 3 listings are behind it. The houses themselves are on the houses for rent by the month page.

House rent by area

All sizes together, cheapest area first. There are too few houses per size in most areas to split them further.

Nusa DuaRp 36M$2,0103
CangguRp 42M$2,3508
UmalasRp 55M$3,0705

Ubud has by far the most houses for rent, and they are cheap: family compounds and village houses around the town, often with a garden. On the west coast, around Canggu and Umalas, what is posted as a house is often a small villa, and priced like one. The area guide compares the areas on more than price.

House rent per year

Houses are often rented by the year, and the yearly price works out much lower per month. The year is usually paid up front.

House Median per year Per month
2 bedrooms Rp 117.5M Rp 9.8M
3 bedrooms Rp 130M Rp 10.8M

A yearly house is more often unfurnished or simply furnished, and the bills are yours: electricity, internet, water and, where there is one, the pool. See the long term houses for rent and the guide to renting a villa for a year, which covers the contract and the cash due on day one. Most of it applies to houses too.

What to check before renting a house

These points come from how house rentals usually work in Bali, not from the data above.

  • What “furnished” means. It can mean a full kitchen and bed linen, or a bed and a table. Ask for photos of the kitchen.
  • Who pays what. Electricity is almost always on the tenant. On a yearly contract, ask about water, internet, rubbish collection and the banjar fee, the contribution to the village community.
  • The compound. A house in a family compound means sharing a gate and a courtyard, and living next to ceremonies. Many tenants like it; ask before you sign if you need quiet.
  • Access. Some cheaper houses are at the end of a narrow lane where a car cannot pass. Check the road at night and in the rain.
  • Repairs. On a long contract, put in writing who pays for the air conditioning, the water pump and the roof.

Where to find a house

Most houses are posted in Facebook groups by owners and agents, with the price somewhere in the text. The best Facebook groups for renting in Bali compares them on their listings. This site gathers the public posts, merges the duplicates and sorts them:

Where these numbers come from

Owners and agents in Bali post their rentals in public Facebook groups. We collect the posts, extract the price, the area and the number of bedrooms, merge the duplicates, and compute a median when at least 3 listings exist for a category. These are asking prices, not signed contracts. The sample of houses is smaller than the sample of villas, so the figures above are less stable, and they update with every refresh of the listings.
