Bali for a couple, one shared rent, two personal budgets

Compare one- and two-bedroom Bali budgets for two adults using real rental medians. See household costs, costs per person and the price of an extra room.

For two adults, Our couple budget is $2,600 a month sharing a one-bedroom villa, or $3,240 with two bedrooms. Those are household totals, roughly $1,300 and $1,620 per person. Rent comes from our listings; the remaining spending is estimated.

Household total versus cost per person

Two people can share the rent and wifi. They still eat two meals, need two insurance quotes and may both need a workspace. A couple’s total should start with one home and two sets of personal costs.

These plans cover two adults without children. Both use the same non-rent allowances, so the comparison isolates the difference between the one- and two-bedroom rent samples.

The transport allowance assumes modest scooter or ride-hailing spending. The leisure allowance is shared across both people’s activities. If both need full coworking memberships, replace that line with the combined quotes.

The visa and insurance reserve is not a couple discount or a published package. Get individual quotes and confirm whether any dependant route applies. The main Bali cost-of-living guide explains the spending categories.

What a second bedroom costs

In the monthly sample updated 26 October 2026, we have 114 one-bedroom villa prices and 311 two-bedroom villa prices. Their medians are Rp 18.5M and Rp 30M respectively.

The difference is Rp 11.5M per month, about $640. That is a substantial cost for a spare room. These are different homes, so the gap includes differences in location, finish and facilities as well as bedroom count.

Housing choice Rent for the household Rent per person
One-bedroom villa Rp 18.5M Rp 9.3M
Two-bedroom villa Rp 30M Rp 15M

If the extra room is an office, compare the rent gap with two suitable workspaces. If you take calls in different time zones, a cheaper one-bedroom home may be a poor fit even when the arithmetic works.

What sharing actually saves

Two solo villa plans total more than one couple plan because they include two rents and two sets of household bills. In our models, the couple plan saves Rp 25.5M per month against two separate solo villa plans.

That is a model comparison, not a measured discount offered to couples. The single-person budget uses its own food, leisure and contingency allowances. Use it to identify what you already share and what stays personal.

Can a couple manage on $2,000 a month?

If you mean $2,000 each, the household has $4,000 and both models fit before travel and arrival costs. If you mean $2,000 total, neither of these median-villa plans fits.

A lower-cost house or shared room, fewer paid activities and more local meals can reduce spending. Test actual rent and utility quotes rather than assuming the one-bedroom median is a minimum. The $2,000 guide shows the housing allowance left by our couple spending plan.

Browse houses as well as villas, and check the rent index before shortlisting an area. The index reflects the mix of homes advertised in each location; it cannot guarantee the same property for less elsewhere.

Does an annual contract help?

A yearly contract changes the payment schedule as well as the price. The lower monthly equivalent often comes with rent paid in advance, plus bills that a monthly rental may include.

Compare the full year, including utilities, pool maintenance and cleaning. Keep the deposit separate because it may be refundable. The one-year living-cost guide combines housing and everyday spending. For the housing contract alone, use the yearly villa price guide.

What this budget leaves out

Children, school fees, car ownership, substantial medical care and international travel are outside these models. Older adults or people with existing conditions may need a much larger insurance allowance. An emergency fund belongs outside routine monthly spending.

All Bali Rentals uses published asking prices, merges reposts and excludes unpriced homes, yearly-only offers and leaseholds from monthly medians. At least three prices are needed to publish a median. USD figures use a fixed planning rate of Rp 17,900 per dollar. Check current availability, bills and personal quotes before signing.
