Set the rent ceiling before choosing a villa
The useful question is how much of the $2,000 remains after housing. A Rp 30M villa can fit inside the currency conversion and still leave too little for food, transport and insurance.
Our one-bedroom villa median is Rp 18.5M. The model using that observed rent totals Rp 36M, about $2,010. This makes a one-bedroom villa a plausible search, provided its bills match the allowances.
| Monthly cost | One-person spending plan |
|---|---|
| Target rent ceiling | Rp 18M |
| Food and drinks | Rp 6M |
| Transport | Rp 1.5M |
| Utilities, internet and phone | Rp 2M |
| Leisure and coworking | Rp 3M |
| Visa and insurance allowance | Rp 3M |
| Monthly contingency | Rp 2M |
| Total allocated | Rp 35.5M, about $1,980 |
| Still unallocated | Rp 0.3M |
Only the rental median is measured from listings. These other amounts are spending allowances, not a claim that everyone gets insurance, a visa or coworking at those prices. The food line is Rp 200,000 per day. The leisure line has to cover your chosen combination of gym, workspace and going out.
What the current rental sample offers
Across 924 rentals with published monthly prices, 279 ask no more than Rp 18M. That is 30 percent of the sample updated 26 October 2026. The count includes rooms, apartments, houses and villas, so it is not the number of private villas available at that price.
Use the monthly rentals archive to compare types rather than insisting on a pool. A house may give you an enclosed living room and better working space for less than a villa. The single-person cost guide compares those choices using separate rent samples.
Where the $2,000 budget gets tight
The budget becomes less comfortable when every line is upgraded at once. A newer villa near the beach, daily cafe meals, a premium gym and unlimited coworking can each seem reasonable on their own.
Price the home with all recurring bills. Monthly villas may include cleaning and wifi; others do not. Ask for recent electricity usage, especially if you want an enclosed living room with air conditioning. Running costs should replace our utility allowance when you get a reliable quote.
The rent prices by area give a starting point for location comparisons. They describe the homes in each sample; they do not isolate the price of moving an identical villa between areas.
Can a couple live on $2,000 total?
It is a different test. Sharing one bedroom saves rent, but food, insurance and personal activities still cover two people.
Our couple allowances total Rp 28M before rent. At a household budget of $2,000, that leaves Rp 7.8M for housing. That is below the one-bedroom villa median of Rp 18.5M in our sample.
A couple can try to make $2,000 work by finding a cheaper shared home and reducing discretionary spending. It does not support the same plan as $2,000 per person. The couple budget guide shows the savings from sharing and the cost of a second bedroom.
What belongs outside the monthly budget?
Flights, refundable deposits, temporary accommodation while you inspect homes and setup purchases need separate money. Keep an emergency reserve too. The monthly contingency is for ordinary overruns, not every possible problem.
A year at $2,000 per month is $24,000 in recurring spending, before those extras. The annual cost guide compares twelve monthly payments with a year paid upfront. For a lower spending target, the $1,000 test shows why the housing search changes to rooms.
Sources and assumptions
All Bali Rentals collects published rental posts and property rates, merges reposts and reports asking prices. We count only explicit monthly prices here. Yearly-only offers, leaseholds and unpriced listings are excluded. Availability and the final negotiated rent still need confirmation.
We use Rp 17,900 per US dollar as a fixed planning conversion. The non-rent amounts are editorial allowances. For explanations of each spending category, use the main cost-of-living guide. Confirm your visa route and insurance quote before treating the result as a personal budget.
